“Something I necessarily felt comfortable with,” Witherspoon said.
The experience was a turning point for Witherspoon, who said it made her realize how the film industry works. “I think that was a good lesson for me,” she said. “It was a formative experience for me, because it taught me at a young age that I had to be more proactive about protecting myself and that I had to have a voice and make it heard.”
Witherspoon has since become an outspoken advocate for gender equality in Hollywood, and has been a vocal supporter of the Time’s Up movement. She has also become a successful producer, with her production company Hello Sunshine producing films such as Wild, Gone Girl, and Big Little Lies.
