Cillian Murphy, the star of Universal’s box office hit, was recently considered to play J. Robert Oppenheimer in a short-lived TV series.
The series, titled Manhattan, aired on WGN America and was set during the 1940s in Los Alamos, New Mexico. It focused on the development of the atomic bomb and the lives of the scientists and their families who lived and worked there.
The show was created by Sam Shaw and Thomas Schlamme and starred John Benjamin Hickey as Oppenheimer. Murphy was considered for the role, but ultimately the part went to Hickey.
Murphy is no stranger to playing historical figures. He has portrayed a variety of characters in films such as The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises.
Murphy is currently starring in the new Universal film, which is based on the true story of a group of Irish rebels who fought against the British during the Irish War of Independence.
The actor has also been cast in the upcoming film, The Secret Garden, which is based on the classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
