Broadway is about to get a star-studded cast this spring with the world premiere of Paula Vogel’s new play, Mother Play. Jessica Lange, Jim Parsons and Celia Keenan-Bolger will star in the production, which will be directed by Tina Landau.
The Second Stage Theater production will begin a limited engagement at Second Stage’s Hayes Theater on Tuesday, April 2, with an official opening on Thursday, April 25.
The play follows a mother and daughter as they grapple with the complexities of family, faith and identity. It is described as a “poignant and funny exploration of the power of love and the courage it takes to be true to oneself.”
Jessica Lange, who is best known for her roles in films such as Tootsie, King Kong and American Horror Story, will play the role of the mother. Jim Parsons, who is best known for his role as Sheldon Cooper in the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, will play the role of the daughter’s father. Celia Keenan-Bolger, who is best known for her roles in the Broadway productions of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Peter and the Star
