The Dutchman, a psychological thriller based on the Obie Award-winning play by Amiri Baraka, is set to star André Holland (Passing), Kate Mara (Black Mirror), Zazie Beetz (The Harder They Fall) and Stephen McKinley Henderson (Beau Is Afraid). The film has landed a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement and is being directed by Andre Gaines from a script written with filmmaker Qasim Basir.
The Dutchman follows the story of a young African American man, Clay (Holland), who is seduced by a mysterious white woman, Lula (Mara). Clay is drawn into a dangerous game of cat and mouse as he attempts to unravel the truth behind Lula’s motives. Beetz will play Clay’s girlfriend, and Henderson will play a mysterious figure who appears to be a guardian angel of sorts.
The film is being produced by Gaines and Basir’s production company, AGBO, along with executive producers Robert Teitel and George Tillman Jr. of State Street Pictures.
