There’s an exciting development in the pipeline for fans of DreamWorks Animation’s beloved franchise, How to Train Your Dragon. Universal Pictures, who has undertaken the task of adapting this franchise into a live-action version, is weaving some nostalgic fabric into their adaptation.
Gerard Butler, known for his powerful performances in films like ‘300’ and ‘P.S. I love You’, is set to return to the world of Norse mythology and dragons. Confidential sources have exclusively revealed to Deadline that Butler will once again be lending his vocal prowess to the character of Stoick, Hiccup’s father.
In the original animated franchise, Butler voiced the role of Stoick the Vast, the sturdy and hearty chieftain of a dragon-riding Viking clan. His return to the franchise could potentially bring a much-needed brand familiarity and fan loyalty to this new live-action adaptation. It should be remembered that Gerard Butler’s strong and commanding voice lent a special charisma to Stoick’s character who was a disciplinarian yet a loving father, steering his son towards droves of adventures.
