Project Details

Project Title:
Spirit Of A Nation/L’esprit de la nation (Canada 150)
Short Synopsis:
About L’ESPRIT DE LA NATION/SPIRIT OF A NATION: The BILINGUAL show was first created and produced (by Janis Dunning, Jacques Lemay and their team of Canada’s top composers and lyricists) in 1992 to celebrate Canada’s 125th anniversary. Proving that it is truly a universal work of art, it is still surprisingly relevant 25 years later. SHORT SYNOPSIS: Spirit of a Nation, tells the story of a young refugee having a dream of a better life. She is taken to this mysterious new world where the land and all her wonderful treasures are honored. An observer (representing all of us), brings her to a celebration where all cultures are welcomed. Abruptly, a group of young revolutionaries crash the party by pointing out that there are no ‘’perfect societies’’ and that we still need to raise our expectations for this beautiful country of ours. Her dream turns into a nightmare and the reality of everything wrong with this world rushes back to her. Just when she is about to loose hope that this special place exists, the observer reveals that even though there is still much work to do, it DOES exist, if we don’t take it for granted…in CANADA. The conclusion of our show is ironically, the beginning of a new world. We have the power to create the story we want. Let’s just start today (THE FUTURE BEGINS WITH YOU).
