Hailey Grant | Dancer from Thunder Bay, ON, Canada Hailey Grant Biography Hailey started taking tumble classes at the age of two and dance classes at the age of three. Immediately, she took a love to being active, performing and working hard to improve. By the age of six, Hailey was dancing in competitions both in her hometown of Thunder Bay and in the United States. She has participated as a team member in groups and productions as well as thriving in solos, duets and trios. Hailey has trained in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, acro, pointe, contemporary, musical theatre, character, ballroom, spanish, latin and italian dance, she puts much of her focus into her ballet technique. In addition to her love of being on stage, Hailey has found a passion over the past two years in sharing her love of dance as a dance teacher. Hailey’s students have attained top marks at competitions and have shown tremendous improvement in her classes. She has also challenged herself by competing with solos she choreographed herself which have earned her top marks and awards. Her students find inspiration through Hailey as their teacher and a model senior dancer at the studio. At dance competitions, Hailey has won several top scores, judges choice awards, scholarships and invitations to national competitions at Celebration Talent, Masquerade, Hall of Fame, the American Dance Awards, KAR, DanceFest, Thunderstruck and Dance Canada. She has been recognized for her emotional performances, strong technique and having the “total package”. Among Hailey’s accomplishments are winning the ThunderBolt Soloist award at Thunderstruck Canada in Thunder Bay in 2015 and 2017, as well as the City Star Dancer award and Thunderstruck Canada, at the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts, she competed for and won the Fort William Rotary Club Ballet Plate in 2015, the Fort William Rotary Club Ballet Tray in 2017, the Thunder Bay Society of Ballet and Dance All-Round Senior Dance Bowl in 2017, the Bob Markall Memorial Award for the highest scoring open number in 2017 as well as many first place scholarships. Along with several awards and scholarships, Hailey has been invited to workshops in Los Angeles and New York. Hailey always looks for and embraces opportunities to perform and grow outside of competition dancing. In 2011, Hailey had the honour of dancing the role of “Clara” in the Minnesota Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker”, she also participated this year in St. Ignatius High School’s production of “We Will Rock You High School Edition” as the role of “Jackson 5” and an ensemble dancer. In 2012, Hailey travelled to Winnipeg, MB for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Summer Intensive and has since auditioned for and has been accepted into summer intensives for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Quinte Ballet School and the National Ballet of Canada. Along with professional ballet training, Hailey has taken the opportunity to learn from dancers/ choreographers of So You Think You Can Dance including Blake McGrath, Marty Kudelka, Nappy Tabs, Nico Archambault, Miles Faber, Rodrigo Basurto, Allison Holker, and Twitch as well as many other top dance influencers such as Stephanie Rutherford, Zac Vran, Lamar Johnson, Tamina Pollack-Paris, Shannon Mather, Tyce Diorio, Tassandra Chavez, and more! This summer, Hailey will be travelling to California for Mather Dance Company's Trans4m Summer Dance Intensive. Hailey has completed up to grade 3 in BATD jazz, tap and ballet exams receiving honours across the board and now studies the Cecchetti syllabus. Outside of dance, Hailey maintains honour-roll grades, works a part time job, loves spending time with her family, babysitting, and volunteering at old folks homes and with NWOSSSA, a student-run leadership conference which she has been with for the past three years. For her post-secondary plans, Hailey shows great interest in business and finance or pursuing a career in dance as well as continuing to teach. Hailey is constantly looking for inspiration and pushing herself as an artist and hopes to expand her love for performing into acting and modelling, her passion grows exponentially with every opportunity to learn and perform. She is not sure where she would like dance to take her but she hopes never stop growing and to always inspire.
