Sheena Cater | Dancer from Toronto, ON, Canada Sheena Cater’s interest in dance began at a young age in the Kelowna area of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Her love for the creative arts quickly grew to include significant training and many hard-fought achievements culminating in the strong interest, technical ability and the unique creative forte that she exhibits today. Most recently, Sheena has completed two yearlong contracts with ONE Movement. This has been rewarding in countless ways; the company given Sheena the opportunity to consistently perform for two years, but more importantly it has given her the opportunity to spread anti-bullying awareness to Ontario’s youth through movement. During Sheena’s past two seasons with the company, she has also been fortunate enough to perform on a bigger stage as the company was invited to perform as the opening number for WE Day Waterloo. The opportunity to perform for 7,000 excited and inspired young people as well as share the stage with names such as Nelly Furtado, Martin Luther King III and Alyssa Reid was truly a life changing experience. Sheena has a strong passion and ability in many dance forms including ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, tap and musical theatre. Her training started at the Canadian School of Ballet in Kelowna, BC where she excelled in the Royal Academy of Dance method receiving a Distinction in her Advanced II exam. During her time in Kelowna she also trained part time under the former Artistic Director of Ballet Kelowna, David LaHay. Before her final year of high school, Sheena was invited to attend the School of Alberta Ballet in Calgary, AB, under the direction of Murray and Nancy Kilgour, where she completed her final year of high school and graduated in 2011. She then went on to dance in their Professional Graduate Division. Throughout her training, Sheena was also fortunate enough to train at many distinguished summer schools which include The Banff Centre for the Arts, Okanagan Summer Dance Intensive and Atlanta Ballet. Since her days as a ballet school student, Sheena has started to explore other facets of the arts. She has started to get a taste of the film industry having starred in the short film Prick of Conscience, working as a background performer in TV shows and movies and working as an actress/model in several music videos. Most recently, you can find her featured in Lights’ most recent music video, Same Sea. Sheena’s passion and experience in dance coupled with her curiosity to venture into other artistic endeavours leaves her with a promising future and she’s excited to see where her creative path takes her.
