The Barbie movie is finally here, and casting directors Lucy Bevan and Allison Jones are revealing the secrets behind how they landed the perfect set of Barbies and Kens.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Bevan and Jones discussed the process of finding the right actors to play the iconic dolls. They said they wanted actors who could capture the essence of Barbie and Ken, and that meant finding people who could portray the characters as only knowing pleasant things.
The casting directors ultimately chose Margot Robbie to play Stereotypical Barbie, and Kate McKinnon, Jimmy Fallon, and Keegan-Michael Key to play the Kens. While Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were all considered for the roles, Bevan and Jones said they ultimately decided to go with the actors they felt best fit the characters.
