She grew up in a low-income, welfare home, but is remarkably self-sufficient. Despite this, she feels like a prisoner in her own home, and the wretched circumstances that come with it. That is, until she decides to take charge. LEAD.
[DR. GUPTA] 40-50s; Indian, or another similar ethnicity preferred. A once-respected professional turned back-alley practitioner. No lab coat; she’s wears jeans and baggy t-shirts. Somehow, she still looks the part. She herself experienced abuse as a child. This is why she helps people who are desperate, like Jane. She’s seen it all and has a calloused perspective of the world. Jane, however, manages to soften that.
[CARL] 30s; White. Possibly Eastern European. Greasy. Tattooed. Lives in wife-beaters and velour. Former drug dealer. Despite being born again, still looks, talks, and acts the part. Overly cautious, untrusting. Has two strikes. Too much beard (or goatee); too much cologne.
