CASTING CALL for ‘SUNDAY’ SHORT FILM
The following are PAID, NON-UNION roles for a TORONTO independent short film,
directed by Alicia K Harris (‘Pressure’ by Koffee/Buju music video, PICK short film,
www.aliciakharris.com). New/emerging actors encouraged to submit.
SUNDAY short film is a celebration of the unique beauty of Black women.
NON UNION
Shoot dates: August 31 – Sept 5
Shoot location: Toronto and/or GTA
Auditions: August 6 (Serena/Angel only), August 7,€August 9
ANGEL / Female / Ethnicity: Black / Age 6-12
Angel is an observant, timid, impressionable young girl. She has an active imagina- tion and uses it to escape intense moments. * *Experience in ballet/dance is an asset (even if minimal), as this character dances a short ballet sequence in the film.
MOM / Female / Ethnicity: Black / Age: 25-40
A passionate, unapologetic, positive role model for her daughter Angel. Encourages
her daughter to embrace and celebrate the beauty of her natural Black hair.
* *Knowledge on braiding hair (using extension hair) is a strong asset, as this charac-
ter braids hair in the film.
QUEEN (BRAIDER/CHURCH GOER) / Female / Ethnicity: Black / Age 40-85
Compassionate, joyous, loving, matriarch in the life of the lead character, Angel. She
represents the intergenerational love of Black women. * *Knowledge on braiding hair
(using extension hair) is a strong asset, as this character braids hair in the film.
SERENA/EN POINTE BALLERINA/ Female / Ethnicity: Black / Age: 15-35
Helpful, supportive and hip, Serena helps Black women love their hair on the daily
while working at the Black hair store. She is warm, kind, and rocks bold and creative
hairstyles. * *En pointe ballet experience is required, as this character dances en
pointe in the film.
