EXCLUSIVE: MGM+ has announced that Grantham Coleman will star in the lead role of its upcoming series adaptation of Stephen L. Carter’s best-selling novel, Emperor of Ocean Park.
The series, which comes from John Wells and Sherman Payne, is set in the worlds of politics, Ivy League academia, and the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard. It follows Talcott Garland, a brilliant law professor and the son of a prominent African-American family. Talcott is forced to confront his family’s past and his own secrets when his father, a Supreme Court Justice, dies under mysterious circumstances.
Joining Coleman in the cast are Tiffany Mack (The Chi) and Paulina Lule (The Good Place).
Mack will play Talcott’s wife, a successful lawyer and the daughter of a prominent white family. Lule will play Talcott’s daughter, a college student who is determined to uncover the truth about her grandfather’s death.
The series is set to begin production in the coming months and is expected to debut on MGM+ in 2021.
