Law & Order has added a new detective to its ranks. Reid Scott, best known for his role as the fictional late-night talk show host Gordon Ford on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has been cast as an NYPD detective for the upcoming 23rd season of the long-running NBC procedural.
Scott will be replacing Jeffrey Donovan, who had been playing Detective Bill Tench since the show’s 21st season. Donovan’s departure was announced in April, with the actor citing “creative differences” as the reason for his exit.
Scott is no stranger to the Law & Order universe, having previously guest-starred in an episode of the show’s spinoff, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is also known for his roles in Veep, The Big C, and My Boys.
“We are thrilled to welcome Reid Scott to the Law & Order family,” said showrunner Warren Leight in a statement. “He brings a unique energy and perspective to the show, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the table.”
The 23rd season of Law & Order is set to premiere later this year. It
